Avoiding foods that are high in cholesterol can be difficult. Many of the foods that taste the best to us are likely high in cholesterol. Most high cholesterol foods contain saturated fats as well as cholesterol. Saturated fats are known to raise your cholesterol and should be removed from your diet and replaced with foods that are good for you and which contain less fat.

Eating too much saturated fat can increase your risk of having a heart attack and can be the main reason why you have high cholesterol. You should check to see how much saturated fats are in the foods you eat. If you have high cholesterol, you need to cut out most, if not all, of the saturated fats from your diet.

High cholesterol foods are not good for anyone to eat in large quantities. High cholesterol foods include most animal products such as meat, fish, eggs, poultry and some milk products. Processed and prepared foods can also be very bad for you. They are easy and convenient to prepare which is one of reasons we like them so much. However, they may contain high amounts of cholesterol and saturated fats.

Cookies and pastries may also be high cholesterol foods that we tend to eat a lot of each day. It’s good to try and stay away from foods that are high in cholesterol and fats. Look at the labels when you buy your food to see how much fat and cholesterol they contain. Be more selective about the foods you buy and only buy the foods that you know are good for you.

Some other high cholesterol foods that are bad for us are cheddar cheese, cream cheese, steak, chicken, butter, liver, ice cream, and cake. The average person shouldn’t consume more then 300 mg of cholesterol each day. Limiting high cholesterol foods in your diet may not always lower your cholesterol.

You may need to try other methods for lowering your cholesterol including dieting and exercising. Most people would prefer to lower their cholesterol on their own rather than take medication for the problem. Medication for high cholesterol can sometimes have side effects which are undesirable. High cholesterol can affect our health in different ways. It’s up to us to take care of ourselves and lower our cholesterol so that we can live a healthier life.
